Mr. Loftus has worked extensively in
Latin America since 1986, including two
years in Belize where he played an
integral part in the accreditation of a
newly opened high school. After
returning to the United States in 1994,
Mr. Loftus taught bilingual education at
Round Lake High School and chaired a
curriculum development committee in this
predominantly Latino community. In 1997,
with the support of the Pilsen Project,
Mr. Loftus opened Poder Learning Center
to meet the growing need for greater
educational opportunities for the adult
immigrant of Chicago. Over the last
eight years, he has lived and worked in
the Pilsen community and served on
various committees and boards including:
The Resurrection Project, Hispanic
Literacy Council, Area Planning Council,
University Village Loft Association and
the Chicago Nonprofit CEO Forum. |
